Glitter Resin Tumbler with Cricut Vinyl DIY
Glossy resin glass with homemade Cricut vinyl cover
Already obsessed with glasses? This is my first and I love the intense shine! Make sparkling glasses the perfect handmade gift...perfect for teachers, friends or family.
Personalize them with your favorite color or name and brightness intensity. It's a great reminder to drink plenty of water every day...or perfect for a hot drink on a cold morning.
Shine in the sun like a beacon! Please note that this is not dishwasher safe... but I still wouldn't put stainless steel cups in the dishwasher. Hand wash for extra safety. Let's get started!
Materials needed for Luminous Resin Cup:
Cutting chrome vinyl with the Cricut Maker
masking tape
isopropyl alcohol
sandpaper
Turner Cup (or double! )
Step 1: Alcohol!
Start by cleaning the glass with rubbing alcohol.
Step 2: Ribbon!
Then tape the top and bottom edges of the glass with blue tape.
Step 3: Shine!
Start painting with glitter paint all over the visible glass. Cover the entire jar and let it dry. Then add some chunky glitter to the modpoj and paint all over the glass. Then let it dry completely.
Step 4: Cricut Vinyl!
Use Cricut Maker to cut names or phrases from metal vinyl or self-adhesive foil.
When the hairdryer is completely dry, sand the glitter until the surface is smooth enough to adhere to the vinyl. Glue the vinyl strip to the glass just above the glitter.
Step 5: Spin the Cup!
Now we need a mug turning station to make the resin.
Mug spinners are cheap and popular enough that you should probably buy them! But here's an improv version if you want to do it yourself.
I used long pins that were punched in a cardboard box. Then a piece of pool noodle is pressed up.
Step 6: Resin!
Now mix the glossy resin according to the instructions on the package.
Mix well in a two-phase process.
Now use a craft stick to apply resin to the cup... on the spinning loom. Rotate slowly and evenly for the first 30 minutes.
The power plant would be awesome! If you have a power plant, run it for 4 hours and then run it for another 4 hours. Then change the rotation and let it run all night, 24 hours at a time.
Use a straw to pop any bubbles that form after 30 minutes of reversal.
Then turn the cup 1/4 turn every minute for the next 30 minutes. Then rotate every 1/4 turn every 2-3 minutes...and continue to spin regularly for the next 4-5 hours.
Again, getting an electric trash bin will eliminate all that overtime.
After 5 hours, check the resin carefully and see how hard it is. If it still looks unkempt, turn it on and if it doesn't, let it dry overnight.
Then leave it overnight. Remove the tape the next day.
The tape leaves a clean line, perfect for drinking or keeping tar off your lips. The resin is FOOD SAFE so it doesn't matter, it's a matter of convenience.
Just that!
Looks amazing though with all the shimmer from the glossy resin it's hard to photograph!
Like and share!
And that amazing resin-coated paint tray!
