Island in the Sun Reflective Iron-On Vinyl Running Shirt DIY
DIY Island in Jogging Vest with Solar Reflective Vinyl
I like the song "Island in the Sun" by Weezer. I remember the road I was driving in Solt Lake City in 2002 when I first heard this song on the radio.
Isn't it funny how music can transport you through time and space like that? It's been a favorite of mine for years, why not make it the theme for my running shirt? This running shirt is made of reflective iron vinyl, so it reflects the headlights when I run in the morning at night.
Yes, I raced again in the first half of August. I went with a friend or two for almost 2 years, then we decided we needed to improve and start running at regular intervals.
It was amazing and I feel like I'm getting stronger and more resilient! Reflective smocks or tank tops are a must for running in the dark... like I do at 5:30 in the morning. Let's do one now!
Necessary material :
sports blouses
reflective vinyl
cricket maker
EasyPress 2 screams
Cricut EasyPress Mat
Cricket design space
Here's how to create an image.
- and you can even customize your design based on your favorite song!Start by clicking on the Shapes tool in the left sidebar, select the circle, and create a large circle. Its size is up to about 5-6 inches.
Then add other shapes. I wanted to create an island in the atmosphere of the sun, then another circle for the sun and another for the island. I imported a palm tree and beach waves. Put them where they are best.
Select all layers except the original large circle and merge them.
Then select the weld layer and the circle and click the "Cut" button. This will create 4 layers.
Find a layer that looks the way you want, with the shapes coming out of the circle. Then delete the rest of the layers.
Now add text and select the desired font.
Then use the "Curved text" function to round the text. Add a little space after the word "sun" to make a small space at the end.
And I added a little star * to separate the beginning and the end of the sentence. Then expand it around the logo you created.
Choose a logo and text and combine them.
Then resize to the size you want to crop. I chose 9" wide for the back of the race jersey.
Invert the image, select the material, place the sheet on the vinyl on the cutting mat face down and press the cut button.
After cutting, remove the vinyl from the mat and remove the excess iron. This reflective material has an extra layer that does not need to be removed. Easily removable when heated.
You can see part of the palm. I actually removed that extra layer completely, it's GOOD but tricky... so don't worry.
Iron the shirt while seated on the EasyPress mat.
Then click on the recommended settings found here.
If you put your logo on the front of the shirt, do it now. Then let the shirt cool completely. After cooling, remove the foil ... at this point the excess layer will be removed.
So the shirt is ready! This is a cool white vinyl that shines bright when hit by light. Here is the back of the shirt:
And here is the logo on the front of the shirt:
The perfect jogging shirt for a beginner like me! I won't be winning any awards or setting any records, but it feels good to feel a little more fit! Running shirts also make great handmade gifts for runners!
