How to Etch Glass: Personalized Pyrex Dishes
How to poison glass: individual pyrex lenses
This fun carving craft will make the perfect gift for Christmas, holidays, birthdays, or weddings! We've moved around a lot in the last 19 years, which means we're always getting rid of stuff. One day I almost lost everything in my kitchen, but you know what? A pyrex plate with my name attached... at all intersections. It's so nice to have lunch or dinner with a neighbor because your name is always on the plate, so it will come back! Again, this is a great gift idea!
Vinyl: You can also use contact paper (to insert inside the plate)
Transfer tape (optional)
Cricut Machine (you can use a hobby knife and alphabet stencils)
Glass Etching Cream
Dishwasher and paper towels
Start by carving the correct names on vinyl. I used my Cricket Maker, but again, this can be done with a pocket knife and a template on free contact paper.
Then drag the inside (or free space) of each letter so that the vinyl (or negative space) can be used as a template.
Then peel off the vinyl backing and stick it to the inside of the tile. I used transfer tape for an easy transition, but gluing them as a sticker works too, but remember the inside.
Then use a large scraper or brush and apply the etching cream over the letters. I've done the cut with very little cream in the past and it leaves a fuzzy look instead of the light cut. So be generous! Leave the sour cream in the glass for 15 minutes.
After 15 minutes, remove the pickle cream with a scraper. Amazingly, this marinade can be scraped back into the bottle and reused!
Scrape as clean as possible without getting the cream under the vinyl. Etching cream poisons anything with a shiny surface, so don't use it in the sink. Granted, the working time for this is 15 minutes, so it's probably not too long... but it's still better if these things don't get thrown in the sink.
Then wash the dishes in the sink with warm, soapy water. Dry it and admire the fabulous carving! I like it! It's really nice when things are labeled... plus it's really fun.
So quickly check the house for some glass and think of all the possible things you can carve! Ha ha. Repeat the process for all glassware within 5 miles. She cooked a dish for the neighbors after she brought us a peach cobbler. ;) Win win!
This is the perfect handmade gift for a holiday gift! Add the names of the newlyweds to your serving plates…or simply label your plates to come back to again and again! It's easy to care for, just wash the dishes as usual.

Materials needed:
Pyrex plate (or other glass).Vinyl: You can also use contact paper (to insert inside the plate)
Transfer tape (optional)
Cricut Machine (you can use a hobby knife and alphabet stencils)
Glass Etching Cream
Dishwasher and paper towels

I chose the inside of the plate because there were printed logos on the bottom that prevented the vinyl from sticking. Therefore, for best results, place directly into a glass dish.
This is all!
