How to Make a Woven Paper Heart Basket for Valentine's Day
How to make a reed heart basket for Valentine's Day
This reed heart basket is a fun paper craft that I learned in third grade. We used large pieces of construction paper to make hearts for our Valentine boxes. A few napkins are enough to create this beautiful heart. Super last minute surprise for Valentine's Day.
This beautiful fabric can be used to host small receptions for family and friends. You can make it the size of your paper.
Here is the video of the process. Pattern and step-by-step instructions in the publication.
Necessary material for the woven paper heart.
2 colors of thin paper (does not work with cardstock)
Pair of scissors
Step 1. Cut the heart in half
Begin by folding the paper in half so it measures 5.5 by 8.5. You can print this pattern on paper and then cut it out from stationery. It should be 2.5 inches wide by 5 inches with rounded corners at the top.
Then cut this egg on the fold of colored paper, cut 2 identical long oval pieces.
Keep the cut pieces of paper folded in half.
Step 2. Make 2 incisions on each half of the heart.
Now make 2 long incisions in each half of the heart. Almost to the top of the curved edges. I just threw it in front of my eyes. In fact, you can cut different widths to get a completely different final effect, so go for it.
Let your material consist of 4, 5, 6, or even 10 sections to weave together. Give the lines different lines by cutting them with decorative scissors.
The weaving process is a bit daunting when the heart-shaped container is opened. Don't worry, it's really quite simple.
Typical fabric, not 3D, from top to bottom. It's a little more difficult because it's everywhere. Create a voluminous basket effect by weaving on both sides.
Step 3. Weave a paper heart
Hold the paper heart halves as shown in the image below. Start at number 3, go through C through hole 3. Then press 2 through hole C. Then press և C through the first hole.
Then continue weaving from 3 to B, from 2 to 2, from 1 to B.
Fill in the heart by extending A to 3, 2 to A, and finally A to 1.
Try it a few times, if it seems difficult, you will succeed. Then look inside your heart to make sure you're weaving right. It should open like a beautiful basket.
Optionally add a ring for the hanging basket. Fill a large party glass for a contemporary flower arrangement.
Here's a fun idea.
Make the ring big enough to fit on someone's door handle, you can give them a fun surprise.
So many. Do whatever you want. Try different fabrics. Have fun, have fun!
