How to Make a Woven Paper Heart Basket for Valentine's Day
How to make a basket of woven paper in the shape of a heart for Valentine's Day
This reed heart basket is a fun paper craft you learned in third grade. We used huge pieces of cardboard to create an interlocking heart for our Valentine's Day box. A few pieces of thin paper are enough to make this clever heart. A big last minute surprise for Valentine's Day!
This clever knitting project can be used to provide small treats to present to neighbors and friends. You can make it yours on paper!
Here is a video of the process. The structure and step-by-step instructions are given in the article.
Materials for woven paper core:
Two-color parchment paper (will not work with cardstock)
scissors
Step 1: Cut the heart in half.
Begin by folding the paper in the middle so that it measures 5.5 x 8.5. You can print this paper template and then cut it from several sheets of paper. It should be 2.5 x 5 inches wide with rounded corners on top.
Then cut this shape into folds of colored paper, cut into two identical long ovals.
Fold the cut pieces of paper in half.
Step 2: Cut two halves from each heart.
Now make two long slits in each half of the heart. At the top of the curved edge approx. I just checked it out. In fact, you can cut different widths and get completely different end effects, so use it!
Make your fabric into 4, 5, 6, or even 10 pieces that you can stitch together! Give the lines a different shape by cutting with decorative scissors!
The weaving process is a bit tricky because the bowl opens with the heart! Don't worry, it's really easy.
A typical non-three-dimensional texture above. It's a little more difficult because it goes through all of it. Create a voluminous basket effect by knitting on the sides.
Step 3: Weave a paper heart
Hold half of the paper core as shown below. Start at 3 and insert a C into the three holes. Then insert 2 into slot C. Then insert C into slot 1.
Then continue knitting from 3 to B, from B to 2, from 1 to B.
Finish the heart by knitting 3 with an A, 2 with an A, and 1 at the end.
If it seems difficult try it and you will notice! Then check the inside of the heart to make sure you're weaving properly. It should open like a nice basket.
Add a hanging basket ring if needed. Fill them with candy, hang them with garlands, make them feel the most durable decor or make them giant with big pieces of paper!
Here's a fun idea:
For a fun surprise gift, enlarge the ring in such a way that it fits someone's doorknob!
That's it! Create what you want! Try different web strips. Rejoice!
