How to Etch Glass: Personalized Pyrex Dishes
How to Engrave Glass: Personalized Pyrex Glassware
These fun prints are the perfect gift for Christmas, holidays, birthdays or weddings! Over the past 19 years, we have moved a lot, which means that we constantly have to get rid of things. Once I almost got rid of everything in the kitchen, but you know what? The Pyrex shell with my name remains on every move. Great for lunch or eating at the neighbors because your name is permanently engraved on the plate so it comes back to you! And in this case, this is a great gift idea!
Vinyl - you can also use contact paper (to match the shell)
transfer tape (optional)
Cricut Machine (you can use a clerical knife and an alphabet stencil)
Cream for glass etching
dishwashing liquid and paper towels
Start by cutting out the name you want from the vinyl. I use Cricut Maker, but again this can be done with a utility knife and a stencil on cheap contact paper.
Then drag the inside (or positive space) of each letter so that the vinyl (or negative space) can be used as a stencil.
Then peel off the vinyl backing and glue the vinyl to the case. I used transfer tape for an easy transition, but sticking it on like a sticker also works, but don't forget about the inside.
Then use a large scraper or brush and apply a generous amount of etching cream to the top of the letters. I used to comb my skin with a very small amount of cream, and instead of neat stripes, it left a cloudy look. So generous! Leave the pickling cream on the glass for 15 minutes.
After 15 minutes, remove the pickling cream with a scraper. Brilliant, this pickling cream can be scratched into bottles and reused!
Wipe as clean as possible without applying vinyl undercoat. Etching cream will etch anything that has a glossy finish, so don't keep it in the sink. Of course, the running time for this was 15 minutes, so it probably wouldn't have been too long... but something like that wouldn't have been in vain.
So go ahead, wash your dishes in the sink with warm soapy water. Dry and admire the magnificent engravings! I like! It's great to have something tagged... and it's a lot of fun.
So search the house immediately for glass and think of all the possibilities you can engrave! Haha. Repeat the process for all glass bowls within a 5 mile radius. I made a plate for my neighbor after he brought us a peach cobbler. ;) Win!
This is the perfect craft touch for a Christmas gift! Add the couple's last name to the serving plate... or brand your plate to make them come back! Maintenance is also easy, just wash the dishes as usual.

Necessary equipment:
Pyrex bowl (or other glass)Vinyl - you can also use contact paper (to match the shell)
transfer tape (optional)
Cricut Machine (you can use a clerical knife and an alphabet stencil)
Cream for glass etching
dishwashing liquid and paper towels
Then drag the inside (or positive space) of each letter so that the vinyl (or negative space) can be used as a stencil.
I decided to use the inside of the case because the logo embossing on the bottom interfered with the stickiness of the vinyl. Then, for best results, place them directly in the glass pan.
