Colored Pencil Vase Turned on the Lathe DIY
A vase for colored pencils with a DIY lathe!
This vase is perfect for selling school supplies! or.
Colored pencils work best. I was invited to the advanced class until I started high school, but I needed some supplies. On the menu were high quality crayons. At that time, it was much harder and more expensive to buy colored pencils online.
It was a financial problem for my mom, but she still gave me a box of 24. Each costs more than a dollar. But it was the biggest colored pencil ever ... and I liked the craftsmanship, not the art. Haha I'm a craftsman but I do not consider myself an artist.
Although 216 colored pencils were used in this vase, the real star of this project is the glossy resin finish. Without it, she looks sad and amazing. Let's begin!
Website Add-ons:
- EasyCast pure epoxy shedding
- deformation syringe
- colored pencils (many)
- Plastic container for melting (small bottle of vinegar)
- wood waste
- rock or weight
- empty box
- Mix cups, drinks, gloves and a work surface
- Hubei Laban
- packing tape
- Saw table
- Lathe / Lathe tools
Step 1: Pencil
Start by finding the right size container for your lathe. It reaches 8 inches in diameter and up to 12 inches in height. I got this vinegar disinfectant from the dollar store and the container was perfect. I cleaned the toilets and toilets ... then I went to the chalk bowl.Use a knife to cut the top of the bowl.
Place the colored pencils well in the bowl. I put 216 colored pencils in the container.
Then use the thin wrapping tape and wrap it around the top of the container and the colored pencil.
Step 2: Mix the resin
Mix an 8 ounce bag with EasyCast resin according to the instructions for the two-step process. It is very important that the resin is mixed well, otherwise it will not harden well. Mix 1 part resin with 1 hardener, mix for 2 minutes, scratching the walls of the stick and glass. Then pour the resin into the second glass and mix the resin with the second stick for a full minute.
Step 3: Discard the resin
Then pour the resin over the colored pencil. It will go in and out of the sticks. We took a colored pencil to make the filling easier and placed it at the end.
I then placed a wooden and stone bottom on top to prevent the crayons from floating. Now let the resin harden and harden for a few days.
Once the resin has hardened, use a knife to cut the plastic container and remove it.
Step 4: Turn
Now prepare the resin block for the lathe. In our case, we broke the mounting part. But in the end we peeled the piece of wood and cut its back and flattened it.
Then let the block power the lathe. Use the lathe cutter to cut and fill the vase. Work slowly and remove small parts immediately.
It's a long process, but you better not rush. Some pencil dots appear during use, which is to be expected.
The vase is taking shape! We decided to dig deeper to direct the second layer of colored pencils from the side.
Add decorative lines and curved shapes as desired. It is interesting to cut the vase to show all the low colored pencils.
When they are completely saturated, we cut the bottom edge of the saw pot.
And it looks just as beautiful as the rest of the pieces!
Now the vase is complex and thin!
The top is really fun with the rough colored pencils that are applied occasionally.
And the base is also amazing - it offers a whole bunch of colored pencils that you can use.
Excessive use of the pencil can lead to light bullet. Therefore, the resin must be finished.
Step 5: Glossy finish
Costs required for sustainable completion:
- Glossy mold Envirotex lite
- roundabout tumblr
- Mix cups, drinks, gloves and a work surface
Start by placing the vase on the back of the glass. Cup rotors guard the spirits by constantly rotating the vase to prevent the resin from dripping.
Then mix the glitter resin in the direction of the packaging in two steps. Be sure to wear disposable gloves for this piece.
Then turn the glass upside down and carefully pour the carbonated resin into the vase. Use your fingers to spread the resin in the vase.
Apply a nice layer of thick resin all over the vase and leave the glass overnight.
Repeat the process of applying the high gloss resin if necessary. Then cover the inside of the pot as well. This is done by turning the pot by hand for about an hour ... and then leave it overnight. Some of the resin will be absorbed at the base, but this is normal.
The vase looks amazing with all the glossy resin coating. The places where colored pencils are worn are cut, filled with resin and perfectly polished.
Fill in with colored pencils or other fun writing. Fill with cakes and place on the coffee table.
Enjoy the connection with this special delightful piece!
Isn't it wonderful? What do you fill it with?
