Give a friend a meaningful gift with this fun and creative guide!
I have had the privilege of working with Plaid for the past 6 years and love their product, support and company. In exchange for this post, I was sent a PlaidFX painting.
Okay, look in your closet, run to the grocery store or go shopping in the garden and grab a leather, leather or imitation jacket to paint.
Plastic covers are an ideal surface as paint does not sink into them. But the same method can be applied to sailing shoes, denim jackets, and other porous surfaces.
Materials needed to paint PlaidFX on leather jackets:
- Recyclable leather or artificial leather jackets
- PlaidFX paints in various colors and finishes
- Brush
Lay the jacket out on your work surface and get ready to paint. I just painted the back of the jacket, but feel free to add some finishing touches to the sleeves and front!
Step 1: Start painting!
Start by opening up the Plaid FX paint and removing the seal. Then dip a round paintbrush into the paint and press down on the back of the jacket.
The round brush is ideal for petals and leaves. Simply push the brush in harder for thicker areas and lift it up for thinner areas. Practice on paper if you're nervous... or jump like me!
Color the crown using the circle shape as a reference. You can carefully draw the bracelets on the jacket with chalk if you need a guide.
I like to paint cheap flowers because they are very forgiving. Just draw some loose rings of petals, leaving a bit of space in the background.
Step 2: More colors!
Now add flowers of a different color and size. Add green leaves. Let the paint dry between coats of different colors... or use the color wheel and mix colors to create new hues.
Step 3: More Leaves!
Add ferns and compound leaves, continuing the circle of the crown on the back of the leather jacket.
Step 4: Sparkle and shine!
Let the paint dry a bit and then add some glitter or metallic paint to the flowers and leaves to give them some depth.
Step 5: Focus on the flower!
Now add yellow centers, pollen spots, and other small elements to complete the shape of the crown. Once you are satisfied with the flowers, let them dry completely.
Step 6: Powerful word!
Now choose your favorite strong word and write it in the middle of the crown. I choose Rockstar! Use the brush and write in your own handwriting about the perfect power play. If you're nervous, use more chalk for the initial sketch.
I used gold metal for writing.
Step 7: Finishing Up!
Apply a coat of gloss paint and/or a little black paint. Then, let the jacket dry completely overnight.
The glitter paint remains a milky white color and then dries clear. It's not scary.
After the jacket is dry, you don't need to paint it with anything. He is ready to go! It remains flexible and should not break.
Once the jacket is completely dry, it's ready to rock!
Aren't the flowers yours?
