One thing that is the same across the board--is the need for good organization.

Remember last year ??? It's been another year of hybrid schedules, more new home students, virtual schools, and those returning to public school wearing face masks and spacing.

The only thing that is generally the same is the need for a good organization.

How do you use your command center?

DIY Command Center for Back To School with Plaid Crafts

Materials needed for a do-it-yourself command center:



  • 1 x 2 boards 21 "long
  • 1 x 1 5 "plate (3)
  • Small nails and hammer
  • leather strap (or strap you can use)
  • Velcro tape
  • Screwdriver
  • character strips
  • clean soup glass
  • hot glue gun
  • Chewing gum E6000



Supplies Needed for DIY Command Center: Chalkboard Hanger with crystal knobs Wood Pallet Plaque Pallet Sign with Clips Folk Art Acrylic Paint (Cascade, Conch Shell and Ocean View) Treasure Gold Paint (Gold) Paintbrushes 1x2 board 21 inches long 1x1 boards 5 inches long (3) Small nails and Hammer Leather Strip (or ribbon could be used) Hook and Loop Closure Adhesive Strip Screwdriver Painters Tape Clean Soup Can Hot Glue/Gun E6000 Glue

Step 1: Paint the board

Start by coloring the board as you like.

Step 1: Painting the Pallet Plaque Begin by painting the pallet plaque sign however you like.

I painted the palette with three different colors and left a natural section. Then let it dry.

Step 2: Paint the board

Then attach a piece of masking tape to the board to hide where the paint has accumulated.

Paint the wood, then remove the masking tape and let the board dry completely.

Then add a few brushstrokes of Treasure Gold color for a modern look.

Step 3: Color the crystal studded necklace.

Repeat the same procedure above for the crystal studs. Use duct tape to mark off part of the tree. Then paint the tree with turquoise paint. Let it dry completely.

Step 3: Painting the Hanger with Crystal Knobs Repeat the same process as earlier on the crystal knobs. Use the painters tape to block a section of the wood. Then paint the wood with the teal paint. Let it dry completely.

Then apply some gold treasure paint the same way as the chalkboard.

Next, follow it up with some Treasure Gold paint in the same way as with the chalkboard.

Step 4: Paint the soup can

Now paint the soup mold with blue paint. Let it dry and apply another coat of paint.

Step 5: Create the Activity Center

Let's start building this activity center. Start by removing the hooks attached to the back of the crystal handle hook.

Step 5: Assemble the Command Center Let's get started assembling this command center. Start by removing the hanging hooks on the backside of the hanger with crystal knobs.

Then remove the cable with clips from the pallet trailer.

Next, remove the twine from the Pallet Sign with Clips.

Take a strip of leather (or duct tape) and wooden blocks.

Get a strip of leather (or some ribbon) and the wood block pieces.

Place a drop of E6000 glue on a 20-21 "long 1x2 board. Also add a drop of hot glue. The hot glue sets instantly while the E6000 sets slowly.

On the 1x2 board that is 20-21 inches long, add a bunch of E6000 glue to the top. Also add a line of hot glue. The hot glue will hold it instantly while the E6000 cures slowly.

Place the board on the back of the pallet and make a mark on the pallet. Glue small panels flush to the underside of the surfaces so that they adhere properly to the wall. Then let the glue dry for 4 hours.

Place the board across the backside of the pallet plaque and the pallet sign. Hot glue the smaller boards on the bottom of the surfaces, so they rest against the wall properly. Then let the glue dry for 4 hours.

Then attach the glass to the leather strap. Glue one side to the pallet using duct tape and a hammer. You can also use hot glue.

Next, attach the soup can with the leather strip. Pound one end of it on the pallet plaque using a small tack and a hammer. Hot glue could also be used.

Then put a strip of hot glue on the soup glass.

Then add a strip of hot glue onto the soup can.

Then glue the glass to the pallet and wrap the ladder around it.

Then stick the can to the pallet and wrap the leather around it.

Glue the other side of the leather strap and secure it firmly.

Tack the other side of the leather strip down keeping it pulled tight.

2 inch leather strips with hot glue from the closure panel to the crystal button chain.

Hot glue is enough to hold it in place, but I've added glue for added strength ... and look.

Step 6. Velcro for the table

Now attach the velcro to the pallet. Place the hook on the pallet and the straight / smooth side on the table.

Step 6: Hook and Loop Closure Chalkboard Now add a strip of hook and loop to the pallet plaque. Put the hook side on the pallet plaque and the loop/soft side on the chalkboard.

This allows you to hold the board comfortably without scratching the plastic hooks. A versatile notepad for writing lists, to-do lists, motivational quotes or practicing your writing skills.
