Making colorful crates
Lately I've been in a bad mood and I've been working in different jobs. On the one hand I was working on my background for Mix'n'Match Part 2 , on the other hand I did make-up and offered photos. But not only in the doll's room I had no air conditioning, also in the living room (next to the doll) there was a problem, it stopped working. Space և I connect these two spaces to freeze). While waiting for things to get back to normal, I thought it would be a good idea to start working on this article.
When I first started working behind the scenes I thought it would be fun to make colorful propane or furniture to match the background. As I drew I wondered what the dolls would sit or stand on, two things that came to mind: chairs and boxes. In the future I would like to build chairs, but it will take time to design them, so I chose boxes. A few years ago I made some boxes that detailed the whole process in my article titled How to Make Shabby Cheese Boxes for Dolls . I don't want to write two identical articles so I won't go into the details of the process but will focus on things I did differently and mistakes so you can learn from them.
All you need for this craft are some popcorn sticks, scissors, glue and some craft supplies. Craft at your own risk.
Let's start with what I changed. In the original text I cut out all the pieces with scissors - my hands started to hurt after a while. This time I made these scissors very easy to make. Although it wasn't expensive, they were shaped like a dream, so I highly recommend you buy a pair.
I made the boxes the same size as in the original post. I lined up 5 popcorn sticks and marked 8 cm (3.15 inches). I was going to use 6 sticks instead of 5 but it didn't look good when I put them aside. I love measuring to copy my pieces onto the table.
I really liked the first two in my original post. First I glued some popcorn sticks to the bottom of the box.
Then I measured the narrower side of the base and cut 4 pieces from that side. You need to take 2 pieces from each popcorn stick. Then cut out 2 pieces and glue them to the edge. You have to complete 3 of these parts.
Attach small pieces to the sides and look straight ahead. I use a mold to keep the parts dry.
Let's stay with the pieces that work. Remember to glue from top to bottom and in the middle first.
I started making two boxes to see how they looked, then made more. I decided to take the first shot using the same flyer as in the previous post.
For the second, I chose pistachio green from the same brand because I wanted the colors to be brighter. Unfortunately I can say about the first eclipse that the cover is very terrible. I know the light colors may not be fully opaque, but they are usually transparent.
To finish the first layer I mixed green with yellow which helped a bit. Then I wore very green coats. I don't know if I should take 3 or 4.
I decided to try something different on the 3rd and 4th boxes. I glued the base pieces to the edge to have more sides to glue the sides to.
The second thing I changed this time was to paint the parts before gluing. I do this with other looms, I want to see if it's easier to draw on this loom. I chose orange for the first box.
I chose yellow for the fourth box. I didn't want to have the same pain as the green crane, I mixed the yellow for the first coat with some white to hide the lines in the wood. Then I came with a yellow coat.
When everything is painted, it's time to put everything back in place. Although some areas are a little easier to paint, you may have to wait for the paint to dry before placing the box. It's a technique that works with other professions, but not with her. The last 4 boxes here
Now it's time to use them on doll pictures. I really thought about all the backgrounds with bright or neon accents for a while. I have an idea for a background that I hope to implement in the future. Here is a picture of Shia (aka BMR1959).
It is very difficult to photograph on all backgrounds. I've been trying the settings on my phone for a while and managed to get more or less pictures of Kim. If I want to continue working in the background, I guess I need to take some time to learn some photography basics.
The doll is leaning against a yellow box on the wall. Here are some behind the scenes. Sorry this is a bit confusing but you get the idea.
Of course, they should not be used in the background. Here I used the white cardboard for the white wall and floor I made in the previous post. They're not that white, but I don't think they're very noticeable.
Of course you can use them on any background. You can choose supports that match or contrast with your back or wardrobe. I found it easier to match your background with a Monster High doll than a Barbie doll as each doll had a different color scheme - overall it was very bright. I chose a blue background: yellow and orange squares because they like her hair look: accessories in this photo by Holly.
This DIY was fun - I liked the result. Working with them is not so difficult, there is something in the photos. I really recommend you try these few things for your doll photos. You don't have to make them like me, the colors are plentiful and the possibilities are endless. For example, you can color the boxes and use them all on a white background, which can be a lot of fun.
I hope you enjoyed this article. I really want to make more doll accessories or journals like chairs or shelves but I can't help but think about making more wallpaper. To keep things more balanced, I should try to combine typesetting work with background work. I have a lot of ideas in my head right now - I feel like I'm working on a lot of things everywhere at once, which means they're not getting ready as quickly as they should. Has this ever happened to you?
As always, let me know in the comments if you have ideas for future articles. I know some of you mentioned doll photography tips or behind the scenes posts. և I really want to do this, I just have to think about what I really want to write.
I hope you are having a good day.
