How to Make a Layered Resin Floral Canvas
How to make a resin flower canvas |
Create a layered work of art with layers of colors, textures, and glitter. This painting is a canvas with several layers of thick cream paint and two layers of Envirotex Lite High Gloss resin. There is an abundance of texture, shine, depth, and finish to this palette that makes it so intriguing.
First, are you surprised that I painted the background aqua and brown? The most important question to ask yourself is the color of your background.
Cost required for the resin layer:
- Canvas
- Envirotex Lite High Gloss Resin
- acrylic paint for embroidery
- paint brush
- gold leaf
- gold sticker
- Mixing bowl, motor, handles
- Cardboard to match the fabric
- Small flashlight, heat gun, or soda straw.
Step 1: Insert the first fabric
Start painting the entire canvas with brushes and strokes. Like this canvas I drew three years ago. Then let the background dry completely.
Step 2: The second pink layer
Then draw a series of large, thick flowers on the canvas. These flowers are spotted and very random. Leave gaps in the background color between the dig petals. Add the green leaves. Don't strive for perfection here, but keep it very abstract.
Step 3: The first layer of resin
Now place the canvas in a cardboard box with a plate on top of the canvas so that it holds its shape. Then place in plastic cups to lift the edges of the canvas. Make sure the lid is closed.
Then mix Envirotex Lite High Gloss Resin in a mixing glass. Read the instructions carefully and make sure you mix them correctly in the two-step process. After mixing in 2 separate cups with 2 different mixers for the allotted time, pour the resin onto the cloth and leave with the shaker.
Close the box carefully and let it dry for at least 24-48 hours.
Step 4: Next Layer of Flowers
Now add another layer of flowers, leaves, foliage, spots, dots, and stripes to the resin.
The fabric is slightly different from the shiny surface pattern compared to the canvas, so it should be thin in some places and thick in others. When you are done with the very small flowers and patterns, let the paint dry completely.
Step five: a layer of gold
Now add little flecks of gold glue to the canvas. Allow the adhesive to dry completely and it will be clear but still very sticky.
Then place the gold foil (or colored paper in this case) directly on the sticky parts of the board.
Then take the gold leaf and paste it exactly where it was sticky and nothing else.
Once the gold leaf is set, use a bristle brush to remove any excess gold leaf. I always walk out this way and end up with a golden glow on the sidewalk.
Step 6: Final Resin Coat
Now put the board back on the box risers and mix up another set of shiny resin. Again, it is very important that the resin is mixed correctly, otherwise it will not harden.
Then pour the glitter resin into the plate. This will magically add a soft, shimmery glow, but it will also give the impression that you have more layers of color and gold.
Close the box. This is important because it prevents dirt, pet hair, flies and other things from ending up during the treatment.
After twenty minutes, reopen and blow out any bubbles that form with a small heat gun or flashlight, or gently blow out with a pipette. Then let the resin dry for at least two days.
Take off the fabric and enjoy! I love how it looks underwater with little flocks of fish swimming around the rock! I love that this is my creation and no one else will have this art at home.
Hopefully this gives you the courage to paint your canvas with multi-layer high gloss Envirotex Lite resin .
