Colored Pencil Vase Turned on the Lathe DIY
Boiler of colored pencils with your own hands.
This vase is perfect for selling school supplies. Or:
Colored pencils work best. I was invited to a high school training course, but I needed some materials. The list includes high quality colored pencils. The day before, buying these colored pencils on the Internet was much more difficult and expensive.
It was a financial problem for my mom, but she still gave me a box of 24. Each cost more than a dollar. But those were the biggest crayons ... և I learned to love art, not art. Haha, I'm a craftsman, but I do not consider myself an artist.
Whether 216 colored pencils were used for this vase, the real star of this project is the shiny resin. Without it, it looks sad and impressive. Let's get started!
Required casting materials.
- EasyCast Pure Epoxy Casting
- Spray against mold
- Colored pencil (many)
- Plastic containers (vinegar bottles)
- Pieces of scrap wood
- stone or weight
- Empty box
- Mixing cups, whisk, disposable gloves և work surface
- Hobby Labna
- packing tape
- I saw the table
- LED / LED tool
Step 1. Pencil
Start by finding the right size container for your lathe. Up to 8 inches in diameter and up to 12 inches high. I found this cleansing vinegar in the dollar store, and the pot was perfect. I cleaned the toilet և the toilet ... then I went to the pencil bowl.Use a utility knife to cut the top of the bowl.
Put the colored pencils firmly in the bowl. I put 216 colored pencils in the container.
Then use lightweight wrapping tape, wrap it around the container, and use a colored pencil.
Step 2. Mix the resin
Mix the 8-ounce EasyCast Resin package according to the two-step process instructions. It is very important to mix the resin well, otherwise it will not harden well. Mix 1 part resin և 1 part hardener, mix for 2 minutes, grate the sticks քերը the sides of the glass. Then pour the resin into the second glass and mix the resin with the second stick for the whole minute.
Step 3. Pour the resin
Then pour the resin on the colored pencil. It will go in and out of the wood. For ease of filling, we took a colored pencil and inserted it at the end.
Then I put sticks of wood and stone on it so that the colored pencils would not float. Now let the resin harden for a few days.
When the resin hardens, cut it with a small knife and take out the plastic container.
Step 4. LED
The resin block is now ready for the lathe. In our case, we mixed the mounting part. But in the end we took out a stick and cut my back.
Then turn the block on the lathe. Use a lathe cutter to cut the vase և to finish. Work slowly և remove small parts in one step.
It's a long process, but it's better not to rush. As you work, some of the tips of the pencil come out, which is to be expected.
Forms in a vase. We decided to go deeper to show the second layer of colored pencil from the side.
Add the desired decorative lines and curved eggs. It is fun to open the vase to reveal all the layers of colored pencils.
When we were completely satisfied, we cut the bottom edge of the vase with a saw.
And it looks just as good as the rest.
Now the vase is wide և amazing.
The top is really fun with rough colored pencils that fall out from time to time.
And the base is great --- it provides the full range of colored pencils used.
Overhandling can be a little useless. That's why the resin needs finishing.
Step 5. Brilliant finish
Materials needed for a stable finish.
- Envirotex light - glossy coating with pores
- Glass Turner:
- Mixing cups, whisk, disposable gloves և work surface
Start by putting the jar behind the glass. Cup rotors save lives by constantly spinning the can to prevent resin droplets from entering.
Then mix the shiny resin with the package in two steps. Be sure to wear disposable gloves for this part.
Then turn the glass over and carefully pour the shiny resin into the container. Use your fingers to spread the resin on the jar.
Apply a nice thick layer of resin all over the container և let the glass sit overnight.
Repeat the process of applying the glossy resin if necessary. Then cover the inside of the vase. This is done by turning the jar by hand for about an hour ... then leave it overnight. Some resin may be absorbed into the base, but this is normal.
The vase looks great with all the shiny resin. The places for transferring colored pencils are crushed, filled with resin and completely polished.
Fill it with colored pencils or other fun stationery. Fill it with sweets and put it on the coffee table.
Enjoy interacting with this special, touching piece.
Isn't it beautiful? How would you fill it?
