Colored Pencil Vase Turned on the Lathe DIY
DIY trick vase with glitter pen.
This vase is perfect for making school supplies while on sale. Or... Put all the stocks of the last few years into broken resin and make a vase with the leftovers.
Colored pens are the best. When I was in high school, I was invited to an advanced art class, but I needed some equipment. The listing included high quality colored pencils. Before the Internet, buying these pens was more difficult and expensive.
My mother had financial hardship, but she still got 24 packs for me. Each of them costs more than a dollar. But it was the greatest of pens... I learned my love for work, not art. Yes, I am an artist, but I would not consider myself an artist.
Although 216 colored pencils are used in this vase, the real star of this project is the shiny resin. Without it, it looks boring and impressive. Let's Begin!
A must-have accessory for the drop.
- EasyCast Clean Epoxy Casting
- spray
- colored pencils (mostly)
- Plastic container for filling (small cup of vinegar)
- wood chips
- stone or weight
- empty box
- Mixing cups, mixing rods, disposable handles, work table
- hobby knife
- packaging tape
- bench saw
- lathe tool:
Step 1. The pen
Start by finding the right size container for your lathe. no more than 8 inches in diameter; Height no more than 12 inches. I found this vinegar cleaner at a dollar store, the dishes were perfect. I cleaned the bathrooms and toilets...then I started working on the vase with crayons.Use a hand knife to cut the top of the plate.
Roll the colored pens tightly into the container. Put 216 colored pencils in the container.
Then, using clear tape, wrap the edges of the container around the colored pencils.
Step 2. Mixing the resin
Mix 8 ounces of EasyCast Resin in a 2-step process according to the directions on the package. It is very possible that the resin has not been mixed properly or cured properly. Mix 1 part resin and 1 part hardener, mix for two full minutes, then scrape the edges of the glass. Then pour the resin into the second glass, using the second stick, mix the resin for 1 minute.
Step 3. Resin pouring
Then pour the resin over the colored pencils. You will break through the bars. To make the filling easier, we all took a colored pencil and then put it under it.
Then I put a stick or stone on it so that the pencils do not float. Now let the resin dry and harden for a few days.
When the resin is hard, cut it with a synthetic knife and remove the plastic container.
Step 4. Circle the circle
Now prepare the resin block for the lathe. In our case, we turned it into an assembly part. But we finally took out the wooden part and cut the back to straighten it out.
Then remove the block to rotate it on the lathe. Use the lathes to cut or shape the vase. Work slowly, removing small pieces at once.
This is a long process, but it is better not to rush. When working with a piece of the pen, the pieces are cut off.
vase in shape. We decided to dig deeper to find the second layer of crayons on the side.
Add decorative stripes, curved eggs as desired. It's a good idea to wait in the vases to show all the layers of colored pencils.
When we were completely satisfied, we cut off the bottom edge of the pot with a saw.
The rest looks just as beautiful.
Now the vase is fully sculpted and amazing.
The top looks very interesting with colored pencils regularly placed around it.
The foundation is also excellent.
Excessive processing will cause the pen to lighten in colour. Therefore, it is necessary to finish the resin.
Step 5. Bright End
Exclusive labor payments.
- Envirotex Lite Cast-on High Gloss Finish
- spinning cup
- Mixing Cups, Mixing Sticks, Disposable Gloves, Desktop
Start by placing the vase on the edge of the cup. Cups are a lifesaver, they always rotate the vase to prevent the resin from escaping.
Then mix the glitter resin in two steps according to the direction of the package. Be sure to wear disposable gloves for this part.
Then drain the cup and slowly pour the shiny resin into the vase. Use your fingers to spread the resin into the vase.
For a modern floral arrangement, fill a large banquette glass and allow it to cool overnight.
If necessary, repeat the resin polishing process. Then paint the vase from the inside. This is done by rotating the vase by hand for about an hour...and then leaving it overnight. A little resin will be added to the base, but this is normal.
The vase looks stunning and is completely covered in glossy resin. When the edges of the colored pencils are bitten, the resin is completely filled and smoothed.
Complete with pencils or other fun office supplies. Fill with sweets Ö‡ Put them on the coffee table.
Enjoy this unique part of an effective conversation.
This is not surprising. How do you fill it up?
