Victorian Ghost Children Halloween Photograph Editing Tutorial
A tutorial on photo editing for Halloween with a Victorian ghost
Hardly anything scarier than the melancholy children of the Victorian era in the guise of a ghost. This is a fun way to catch ghosts on camera. This is a wonderful collection of photos, one of my favorite projects I’ve done with my kids.
Delicate umbrellas and pocket flip flops ... these kids know exactly how to look scary in a quiet environment. This funny post has been updated since post 2012. I won a photo editing contest with this post, I won our first iPad.
Looking at these pictures, you can almost hear children giggling in the woods. Their sad faces resembled long-lost time.
These photos really touch with their monotony - the perfect Halloween decoration.

First we draw 376 images. Well, let's copy. I explained to my children what I wanted to do ... 10 years, 8 years 4 years, everything was on the boat ... shocking. I have the best kids.
The first step. men's suits:
Dress the children in "old-fashioned" clothes. The simpler the better.
The boys wore a pair of bow ties, which I glued with hot glue and glued to their shirts for this shot. The boys wear vests, which are their usual clothes at church. Can you believe I have this dress in her closet for my daughter? A simple school dress is dark gray tights.
Next we find some accessories. Old keys, vintage pocket watch, lace umbrella.
Then we walked around the neighborhood in a hoodie and yoga pants. I saw a beautiful spectacle ... a small grave a kilometer away on the road behind us. (yes, we walk, my kids are wonderful ... we have 1 car)
Once you’ve chosen a location, place the camera on a tripod - don’t let it fall. Place the children in the photo - paint a picture or two.
Then leave the camera in the proper place on the tripod, let the children come up and stand in front of the camera to get out of the frame. Just take a picture in the background.
The best photo set for Halloween.
The best thing about this series is that not all of my kids have to smile at once. I just told them to look a little boring ... we got some great photos.
Step 3. Edit photos
Now reward your children with a movie. They deserve it.
Well, in general, I'm a Photoshop girl. I have been using it since high school ... I believe that then cavemen invented Photoshop for computers. In any case. I decided to try pixlr ...: I like it. Free ... big bonus! And it’s mostly run like Photoshop, so it didn’t take me long to master it all. So if you’ve always wanted a great photo editor, give it a try.

The download process is simple, you can view both images side by side.
Now you have 2 layers. Then to the top layer (with people) Choose this little carrot to activate control over the layer
It displays the OPACITY scale. This is the funniest part. Just use the slider to make people look like ghosts. Each picture is different. For some I have increased the opacity to 60%, for others only to 73% ...
Next you want to look at the layers to make sure they line up as much as possible. It’s not always super-perfect, but feels like a double vintage.
Then delete the image ... You can also create a sepia tone or a vintage photo effect.
Repeat this as many times as you have photos. We changed a lot of photos. We printed them for 1 hour at Walmart, made postcards for family, friends and murals to enter.
It helps if you have a richly decorated antique frame ... a little awful. I like how they add horror to our Halloween decor.
These photos are a wonderful reminder of time travel, taken in 2012, 9 years ago. I love watching my kids crawl like horrible memories of my childhood when we lived in North Carolina.
It would be a fun family history lesson if you could find a family tombstone and take a picture there. It would be scary to have your last name on the tombstone.
Surprising, right? These kids are hardcore, run for miles, dress amazingly and let me take so many photos of them just for this fun shooting.
I really have the best kids. And really, I wanted to completely change and republish this series of photos. Maybe I'll find an ugly alley or an empty house. What do you think?
Like, share. Or ... save for later.
Watch this amazing video montage! This is my son, when he was about 5 years old, edited by my husband.
