I Spy Game Resin Trinket Serving Tray DIY
I spy resin trinket toy serving tray DIY!
Filled with miniatures and flair, this spy resin serving tray is a fun DIY and makes a great gift! Fill the drawer with small items from the junk drawer or with small heirlooms in dusty jewelry boxes. With a thick, glossy resin coating, the ornaments stay in place and provide a smooth surface to use on your serving tray or coffee table to scoop anything up. Great conversation piece too!
What will you fill my deck with? Keys, Dice, Stationery, Nuts/Bolts, Screws, Rivets, Bottle Caps, Broken Jewelry, Amulets, Treasure Hunts, Stones, Crystals, Buttons, Small Toys, Beads and more. What do you see on my resin jewelry box?
Necessary accessories for the spy tray:
- EasyCast Resin
- Bags of trinkets, miniatures, figurines and souvenirs
- glue gun
- Mixing cup, stirrer, disposable gloves
- Serving plate
Step 1: Paste
Use hot glue to attach each small ornament to the bottom of the tray.Keep filling the holes with pieces. The cubes are on top of my tray and use a lot of resin to cover all the pieces...so plan accordingly and choose flat objects.
At that point, I ran out of pieces...so I quit. There's still room for more, so fill in what you want.
The second step: the resin
Now mix 8 ounces of resin according to the directions on the two-step package. Mix one part resin and one part hardener and stir for two full minutes. Then pour the resin into the second mixing cup and use a new stir stick to stir the resin for a full minute. This mixing process is very important for the correct processing of the resin.
Then pour the mixed resin over the surface of the bucket. The resin is self-leveling so it moves around the tray, filling in gaps, holes and small spots in the trinkets.
So start with 8 ounces of resin to give her the time she needs to fill up.
Then leave the pan covered overnight. Covering it will keep dust, lint, and even flies out. Of course, adding flies to your Yo Veo tray would be a lot of fun.
After allowing the resin to cure overnight, mix and add another 8 ounces of resin to the coating. Resin-filled cups add weight to the tray, so keep that in mind as well. Keep adding this resin and leave it on overnight until you are happy with a smooth painted finish.
Then stick the stickers with the objects that the children can see when they look at the storage compartment. Makes a great handmade gift!
